New Development Studio Eyes Out Founded by NIN Guitarist Robin Finck and Spec Ops: The Line’s Cory Davis

Veteran game designer Cory Davis and Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck announced the creation of a new studio earlier this morning called EYES OUT.

The studio is based out of Los Angeles, California and is made up of, “Passionate world-builders and storytellers who believe in the powerful synesthesia that emerges from music, narrative, and interactive experiences.”

A video game project is already in development at EYES OUT. Details on this project are scarce, but the press release does describe it as being a single-player immersive cosmic horror game with strong environmental storytelling elements.

Speaking of horror, the press release also talks a bit about games Cory Davis has worked on, notably Spec Ops: The Line. Davis served as the creative director and designer on the project. He’s also worked on horror games like Monolith Productions’ F.E.A.R. and Condemned.

Additionally, Davis was a founding member of indie studio Tangent Games where he worked as the creator and composer of the horror game Here They Lie. Speaking on this subject in particular, Cory Davis notes:

“When I was finishing up work on Here They Lie, Robin wandered into our studio and I felt a very strong connection to his open, creative view of existence, and the power of music.

We instantly started working on some prototypes I had in development at the time and together we launched straight toward something unexpected.

Robin’s vibrant and boundless approach to the creative process drives our work far beyond my previous experience. It’s such an exhilarating trip to venture into the darkness together.”

And of course, Nine Inch Nails fans will be familiar with guitarist Robin Finck. The press release comments that Finck has been a member of the band since 1993 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

When he’s not out with Nine Inch Nails, Finck also has experience scoring video games and has worked on titles like NOCT and Observation. Touching upon the partnership with Cory Davis, Robin Finck stated:

“Cory is a true and impassioned artist. He’s a visionary leader who draws the highest and best from each person on the team, no matter their position. He’s capable and dedicated and he’s open to forces unspeakable. He’s rare. Weird, even.

We connected about films and games and music and all the minutia and it was a really positive charge colliding with him. We have a simpatico work ethic and drive, and we see each other soul to soul. Our play together is inspired.”

As previously mentioned, a cosmic horror game is in development at EYES OUT. To keep track of updates on this, and to scope out job openings at the studio if you’re in search of work, be sure to check out the studio’s official website.

After hearing about the new studio from Cory Davis and Robin Finck, we’re curious what your thoughts are. What do you think the cosmic horror game they’re working on is? We’re already getting a Dead Space remake from Motive Studios, so it’s definitely not that.

Our guess is it’s an original project. What do you think? Let us know on our social media channels including Facebook and Twitter
