Arcade cabinets have been a nice collector’s piece for a while now. Oftentimes people will purchase them as an arcade is closing, or from websites dedicated to keeping the artform alive.

It’s not terribly often that we hear about modern games getting an arcade cabinet, but here we are. Minecraft Dungeons, the Diablo-like game set in the Minecraft universe released last summer and now, it’s about to get a whole new coat of paint.

Minecraft Dungeons Arcade Cabinet Announced

Today, the Minecraft Dungeons arcade was announced. Created by Play Mechanix, the Minecraft Dungeons Arcade experience has been born. It offers the familiar multiplayer experience you’re used to from the game, but also a brand-new feature exclusive to the arcade cabinet.

According to the Minecraft website, the arcade cabinet will use a physical card-based save system.

“When you play the game, you collect gems and [defeat enemies], which fills your card meter,” Will explains. “Once card meters are full, they activate, and you can use them to defeat enemies all around you. Every time you play the game, a card will be given that is yours to keep.”

There are 60 cards for players to collect and each player can scan up to five cards per session. These cards will contain your gear and items for your play session. Bring your full loadout of cards to make sure you’re best equipped to get the high score on the leaderboards.

A number of these cabinets are being distributed in North America for testing, and an actual release of the cabinet has not been announced yet.
