Microsoft Says Never Mind To Matter For the Kinect

When it was first announced last year at the company’s Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, Microsoft’s Matter, a collaboration between director Gore Verbinski (the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and the forthcoming Lone Ranger flick) and Blind Wink Games looked like a fancy puzzle game that would deliver a unique experience for the Kinect.  Alas, we won’t get to find out how the final product fares.

That’s because Microsoft officially cancelled the project today, with a representative stating, “Microsoft Studios is no longer pursuing this title.  We have no further details to share at this time.”

We’re not sure if it’s a lack of interest in the market of Kinect games (or maybe the developers not feeling they could push it to the next Xbox hardware), but it’s sad to see Matter go before it has a chance to get off the ground.  It looked like it would offer something unique, maybe along the lines of a high-tech Marble Blast Ultra.  Ah well, we can only think about what could’ve been…
