Microsoft was probably furious when it found out that its superstar game release Halo 4 was leaked early onto the Internet over the weekend.  Now, it’s acting accordingly.

A report from Reddit indicates that Microsoft’s Live enforcement team is sending out emails to would-be pirates, telling them that anyone who plays the game through pirated means will be permanently banned from Xbox Live for “prerelease title play”.  Though that rule sounds a bit iffy…hey, it’s their service.

“During your suspension, you will not be able to log into Xbox Live,” states the notification.  “Your Xbox Live privileges will not be reinstated.”

Regarding the statement, Microsoft said, “We are aware of isolated cases in which Halo 4 content has been propped on the web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation immediately.”

Really, guys, just wait like the rest of us.  It’s only a few more weeks, right?  And you get to keep your accounts.  Win win.

Look for Halo 4 OFFICIALLY on Xbox 360 on November 6th.
