Metal Gear Solid 5: Mission 24 Close Contact

Rescue the two engineers from the guard post to earn an S Rank.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

This guide will help you earn an S Rank score in the Close Contact mission in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and includes a list of the mandatory and optional objectives available for this mission. Note that it is not necessary to complete all the objectives to earn an S Rank. You just need to accumulate a score of 130,000 or more, and earning the time bonus will greatly increase your chances of getting an S Rank score.

Walkthrough

Begin by choosing to drop in at the northernmost landing zone. This will get you closer to the nearby guard post where the targets are located, allowing for quick extraction. Before heading to the objective area, first bring up your iDROID and call in your extraction helicopter to the nearest landing zone. Yes, you will finish this mission that quickly.

Hop on D-Horse and begin riding toward the objective waypoint. Continue through the canyon until you reach a small outpost with several enemies patrolling the area. This outpost should look familiar if you followed our guide to complete the “Voices” mission earlier, as this is the same area that you passed through before. However, this time your targets are located inside a small tent in this outpost area.

Locate a small tent where the two engineers are being held inside. There will be several guards stationed out front, and you can mark them with your binoculars if you wish.  Prepare to tranquilize a lone soldier as you approach the area, and then begin to curve around the camp along the left side. Carefully neutralize the soldier on the far left, and go prone to start sneaking toward the tent containing the engineers.

Stay prone, and quickly pick off each of the guards surrounding the tent using your tranquilizer pistol. When all of the enemy soldiers are put to sleep, head into the tent to rescue the engineer tied up inside. Carry the target outside of the tent and attach her to your Fulton Recovery Device for extraction.

If the other target is not in the tent, he may have wandered off in an attempt to escape. Simply track down the remaining engineer to neutralize him with your tranquilizer pistol, and proceed to extract him with the Fulton Recovery Device as well.

If you called in your extraction helicopter earlier, it will be waiting for at the landing zone nearby. You can run straight to the LZ on foot, or you can call in D-Horse to get you there a bit quicker. Clear the hot zone and board the helicopter to complete the mission. If you moved quickly, you may have a high enough score for S Rank through the time bonus alone. If not, then the score multipliers for Perfect Stealth, No Kills, and No Retries added to the time bonus should put you well over the required score for S Rank.
