For those unfamiliar with Secret Lair Drops in Magic: The Gathering, the Secret Lair Drop Series is one that’s comprised of a few limited edition “specially curated cards” from various artists. Typically, they have a set theme, with one previous theme being The Walking Dead.

Wizards of the Coast revealed today that other Secret Lairs are planned for 2022 as well – separate from the Fortnite ones – including one for Street Fighter.

Wizards of the Coast and Epic Games are officially working together on a Magic: The Gathering collaboration with Fortnite to create two Fortnite-themed Secret Lairs.

Both of these Secret Lairs for Fortnite will be released in 2022 and will feature approximately 5+ card reprints with Fortnite-themed art.

The announcement came as part of the Magic Showcase from Wizards of the Coast today, during which other announcements were shared including news of a Street Fighter-themed Secret Lair set to release in 2022 as well featuring “mechanically unique” cards.

Other crossovers that MTG fans can look forward to in the future (or dread, it all depends on how you feel) include collaborations with Warhammer 40K and Lord of the Rings.

The collaboration with Lord of the Rings will reportedly be pretty substantial, more so than the Fortnite-themed Secret Lairs. The Lord of the Rings set called The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth will be released in 2023 both physically and digitally (for example, in Magic: The Gathering Arena).

All in all, Wizards of the Coast has big plans for Magic: The Gathering collaborations in 2022 and 2023, and we’re looking forward to checking some of these cards out. For example, the idea of mechanically unique cards in the Street Fighter-themed Secret Lairs have left us intrigued.
