Live-Action Adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance In The Works

Live-action adaptations of video games has become something of a trend with many adaptations finding success with films like Detective Pikachu and Netflix series like The Witcher.

Now, we’re getting another live-action adaptation based around the 2018 game from Czech developer Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The adaptation will be handled by Erik Barmack, a former Netflix executive who founded his own studio Wild Sheep Content. In addition to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Barmack is also working on the film adaptation of Yakuza with Sega.

Working with Barmack is Warhorse Studios including CEO Martin Frývaldský. In the Variety article, Barmack noted:

“It’s especially interesting that video games with heavy narrative, like ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Kingdom Come: Deliverance,’ are uniquely adaptable, and local but global all at once.”

As of right now, it’s unclear whether the Kingdom Come: Deliverance adaptation will be a movie or a TV series. All that’s known is that Barmack and Warhorse have begun reaching out to potential writers and directors.

It’s possible that the adaptation will take shape in TV or film form based on the feedback that’s provided by writers and directors who’ve been pinged on the project.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a sweeping story with a number of layers from political upheaval to the main character’s journey from a helpless blacksmith’s son to a skilled fighter.

The story synopsis for Kingdom Come: Deliverance on Steam reads:

“Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart.

One of Charles’ sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you’re Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.”

When we played the game, we found ourselves captivated by the story. We’re looking forward to hearing more about the live-action adaptation as work on the project continues.

We’ll be sure to share new information as soon as it’s provided. Until then, be sure to check out the full article from Variety on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance!
