This past weekend, Square Enix released a new Kingdom Hearts trailer at the D23 Expo in Japan, revealing the new Monsters Inc.-inspired world for Kingdom Hearts 3. Visiting the world of Monsters Inc. means Sora, Goofy, and Donald get a monster makeover, allowing the iconic heroes to blend in as citizens of Monstropolis. Players can look forward to fighting alongside Monsters Inc.’s Mike and Sully, who will utilize their scaring skills during team battles. Of course, Boo will make an appearance as well, as shown in the subtitled trailer below.
Based on the trailer, Kingdom Hearts 3 will also feature new characters and locations. Sora will team up with Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the iconic toy crew from Pixar’s Toy Story. Rapunzel from Tangled will be available as a party member, while Ariel from The Little Mermaid can be summoned via the link system. Fans can also look forward to the return of series villains Marluxia and Vanitas.
Along with the Kingdom Hearts 3 video footage, Square Enix also released a new trailer that features the game’s new theme song, “Don’t Think Twice” by Hikaru Utada. The theme song trailer also teases a brief exchange between Riku and King Mickey, which you can watch below.
