J.J. Abrams has been all over the news as of late, since he was signed on last week to become the latest director in the Star Wars franchise. He’ll be bringing his talent to the forthcoming Episode VII film, due in 2015.
Want him to do something sooner? He’s already on top of it. Abrams will be teaming up with Valve’s mastermind Gabe Newell for a forthcoming panel at the 2013 DICE Summit, which will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas next week.
The opening keynote will have the two talking about “Storytelling Across Platforms: Who Benefits Most, the Audience or the Player?” During the panel, they’ll explain how suspense, action and emotion can be captured in video games.
“From TV to film and now award-winning mobile apps, there’s no question that J.J. has his finger on the pulse of the entertainment industry, and we’re thrilled to welcome him and our 2013 Hall of Fame inductee, Gabe Newell, to the DICE stage,” said Martin Rae, president, Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. “J.J. thoughtfully weaves together suspense, action, emotion, and fun into every one of his projects – elements every game developer aspires to capture as well. Each year, the DICE Summit sets the tone for the year ahead in games and adding J.J. and Gabe’s shared insights is a natural fit as we see all forms of entertainment converge.”
The panel will take place on February 6th. And if you need more of a Newell fix, he’ll also host a conference keynote called “A View On Next Steps” on the 7th. You can also see him get inducted into the AIAS Hall of Fame at the 16th annual DICE Awards later that evening.
