It’s hard to believe that the revolution of first-person shooters started way back in 1992 with the release of id Software’s Wolfenstein 3D.  Now what’s even more shocking is that the game is 20 years old today.  To celebrate, id Software has a bunch going on and you can easily take advantage.

First off, the game is being offered as a free download, today only, through the App Store.  You can download it by clicking here and shoot Nazis to your heart’s content.

In addition, you can play the game in full through your web browser by visiting http://wolfenstein.bethsoft.com/ and downloading it there, shooting to your heart’s content without worrying about paying a pithy downloading fee.  Nothing wrong with that, right?

Finally, John Carmack, creator of the game, has provided a full running commentary for the game through YouTube which you can view here.

Happy 20th, Wolfenstein!  What will happen with the 25th anniversary, we wonder…
