We finally have our first real look at the next step in the Half-Life franchise following a teaser earlier this week from the folks over at Valve. While the next entry into this beloved series is a Virtual Reality game, it isn’t a spin-off or an “additional” experience, it’s fully the next game in the franchise set before the events of Half-Life 2.
From the video below, we see a game with intense horror elements while providing a stunning VR experience. Alyx will put players in the shoes of Alyx Vance, a character that is meant to be the last hope for humanity when going up against the terrifying alien race knows as the Combine.
According to Valve, “Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.
“As founders of a fledgling Resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine.”
Between the challenging new puzzles and horrifying storyline, Alyx aims to give a new Half-Life experience while providing something entirely new to the fanbase at the same time. As for which platforms Half-Life: Alyx will be compatible with for those that don’t want to shell out a ton of cash for Index:
