First we heard GTA 5 would debut on PS4, Xbox One and PC this fall. Then there was a rumor of a 2015 delay. Now Rockstar Games confirmed November 18 for the newer consoles, with a PC release January 27.
If this game was a simple port, we’d still rush out and throw $59.99 (plus tax, in all pennies) at the unfortunate store clerk, but it’s a revamp, even more ambitious than the delightful Metro Redux. We knew about the increased draw distance and enhanced character models, but there’s so much more. Rockstar added new weapons, vehicles and activities, along with an increased number of wildlife. There’s improved damage, more vehicles on the road and even prettier foliage if you felt the grass and trees needed a boost. On top of that, there are over 100 new songs spread across 17 radio stations.
If you played the game on Xbox 360 or PS3 (specifically the Prologue, and you did so while connected to Xbox Live or PSN), Rockstar will somehow beam exclusive content to your next-gen machine, from collectible vehicles (the Dukes, Dodo Seaplane and a faster Blimp) to activities like wildlife photography; now you can snap pretty photos of critters instead of blowing their brains out.
Finally (for now), players who pre-order will receive $1 million in bonus cash, split between single player and GTA Online.
Get hyped.
