The Court of Owls is gonna be sorely disappointed by this tardiness

Warner Bros Games Montreal has been trucking along with Gotham Knights, an intriguing action-RPG starring the four major “Bat Family” leaders, for quite some time. While the team was originally aiming for a 2021 release, you know what’s coming.

Today, WB Montreal announced the targeted release window has shifted to 2022.

Gotham Knights now Targeted for a 2022 Release

This announcement was made via social media, and it doesn’t really seem any different than the standard delay announcement. The team needs more time to make the game, they look forward to showing more, so on and so forth.

Considering how quiet things have been since Gotham Knights’ announcement, I doubt this is surprising news to many.

This is only one of many game delays so far, and I personally expect to see more. It’s the simple reality of COVID-19, which is still very much an impact on the world, much less videogames. It could also be any manner of reasons, but videogames are already hard enough to make. If it needs more time, it needs more time.

Gotham Knights wasn’t the game folks were expecting, eschewing the Arkham branding and going off in new gameplay directions. A single or two-player experience, the stars of this show are Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood.

Being Robin is kind of a revolving door in the DC universe, but for some reason Tim Drake seems to be permanently in the role in the gaming world. Damian Wayne can’t catch a break!

Anyway, it just be like that sometimes. Gotham Knights will eventually be out and we’ll forget all about the troubles on the way there. In the meantime, 2021 is still packed with releases.
