Ghostrunner was one of the best cyberpunk games of 2020, and if you’re one of the many who enjoyed Ghostrunner, you’ll be happy to hear that a sequel is already being planned. That’s right, publisher 505 Games and developer One More Level recently announced that Ghostrunner 2 is in development!
Ghostrunner Sequel Announced
Developer One More Level and publisher 505 Games shared the exciting news recently that a sequel to Ghostrunner, known right now as Ghostrunner 2, is currently in development. The news of a sequel comes a full year after the release of Ghostrunner back in May of 2020.
For those who missed out on Ghostrunner last year, the game is a fast-paced, first-person platformer set in a gritty cyberpunk world. In the game, you’ll run along walls, jump, hack, slash, and slow down time as you work to one-hit kill your way to the top of Dharma Tower.
A more concise description, courtesy of the game’s Steam page, can be read below.
“Ghostrunner is a hardcore FPP slasher packed with lightning-fast action, set in a grim, cyberpunk megastructure. Climb Dharma Tower, humanity’s last shelter, after a world-ending cataclysm. Make your way up from the bottom to the top, confront the tyrannical Keymaster, and take your revenge.
The streets of this tower city are full of violence. Mara the Keymaster rules with an iron fist and little regard for human life. As resources diminish, the strong prey on the weak and chaos threatens to consume what little order remains. The decisive last stand is coming.
A final attempt to set things right before mankind goes over the edge of extinction. As the most advanced blade fighter ever created, you’re always outnumbered but never outclassed.
Slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialized techniques to prevail. One-hit one-kill mechanics make combat fast and intense. Use your superior mobility (and frequent checkpoints!) to engage in a never-ending dance with death fearlessly.
Ghostrunner offers a unique single-player experience: fast-paced, violent combat, and an original setting that blends science fiction with post-apocalyptic themes. It tells the story of a world that has already ended and its inhabitants who fight to survive.”
It could be a while before we see anything in regards to what the newly announced sequel to Ghostrunner looks like, and the ways in which it’ll follow and expand upon the story, setting, and atmosphere of its predecessor.
Fortunately, while we wait for more information regarding Ghostrunner 2, there’s plenty of content to look forward to in Ghostrunner itself. Earlier this year, a roadmap was shared which outlines the upcoming content releases planned for Ghostrunner.
One such content release is scheduled to drop in Summer 2021, while the “Ultimate DLC” and a free next-gen console update is set for Winter 2021. You can read more about the 2021 roadmap for Ghostrunner here on the game’s official website.
After hearing about the sequel to Ghostrunner, we’re curious as to what your thoughts are, and what you’re hoping to see from the sequel.
