Apparently the so far ill-fated Gears of War movie is being considered once more.
The next iteration of the series, Gears of War: Judgment, is coming in 2013, so mouths are flapping about Marcus and the boys once more. This seems to have led to re-arousal of Hollywood interest, according to a report from Variety.
Creative Artists Agency is working towards bringing the movie to the screens, and apparently is using a script written by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides scribe Stuart Beattie, who was also drafted in to write a Halo movie script (which Variety claims may still go somewhere).
Legendary rock star of the games industry, Cliff Bleszinski, left Epic Games last month for what we hope is just a sabbatical while Rod Fergusson, another employee at Epic, departed last August. These two were highly influential on the direction of the Gears of War series so it’s a pretty scary idea they won’t be around to consult on the potential movie.
The Gears of War movie was apparently put to one side in order for New Line to make The Hobbit films.
Are we really likely to see anything come of this? We don’t know, but we’ll be on the edge of our seats until we find out any more.
