Gears 5 was a smashing success on PC and Xbox One and The Coalition is already hard at work on Gears 6. Players loved the more integrated RPG mechanics that the latest Gears of War story had to offer and it looks like that was just a stepping stone for the future of the franchise.
“Gears 5 took some leaps forward in how we think about a Gears game, and as you mentioned, fans responded positively,” said design director Matt Searcy in a recent interview with GamingBolt. “Gears 5 was all about laying the foundation for the franchise to steer it into the future, so it’s safe to say we’ll continue to build off this foundation in the future so we can continue to surprise and delight fans as we look forward to whatever might be on the horizon.”
Searcy mentioned that they wanted to make the combat even more open-ended while ramping up RPG-lite mechanics and overall progression mechanics. While Gears of War was always amazing, Gears 5 truly brought something special. The story felt more guttural, it felt like there was more on the line, and the characters as a whole felt more human and relatable.
Though nothing will top the Cole Train, baby (woo!), Kait and co. presented a gut-wrenching tale with so many new upgrades to how the game was when it was in player hands. It looks like the team over at The Coalition was inspired immensely by the positive feedback following the most recent entry and they are taking that excitement to all-new levels with future games on the way.
As for the game itself out now, Gears 5 is available on Xbox One and PC through Windows 10. What did you think about the latest entry into the series? Are you excited for what’s ahead with Gears 6?
