Game of Thrones’ final season wrapped up on HBO this past weekend and while the author behind the books that inspired it all, George R.R Martin, is hard at work on his latest novel, he’s also apparently busy helping make a new video game as well!
Earlier this year, reports began circulating about a new title from the studio that gave us adventures such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Martin took to his blog recently to confirm that he’s taken on a consulting role for FromSoftware’s newest game and that though it will have fantasy elements, it’s not a Game of Thrones experience.
His confirmation of the rumors was stealthily added into his blog post, adding a simple “I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.” And yes, he also added that he is working on his Game of Thrones series as well, so fans can rest easy.
As for the game consulted for, he didn’t say, though new details have surfaced revealing that FromSoftware’s new adventure is a “dark, medieval fantasy ARPG” meant to be a “spiritual successor to Dark Souls.” A recent leak also speaks to a possible Norse theme with a quest to find “an artifact to give [the kingdom’s knights] an upper hand in the wars to come.”
With the major show now concluded and at least a few more years until our eyes see any of the planned spin-offs, the news that he’s working on yet another fantasy adventure is solid news indeed. Who knows, maybe it’ll even be the next big HBO series – stranger things have happened.
