Today, Epic Games unleashed Fortnite’s new Halloween Event, Fortnitemares, introducing spooky new weapons, cosmetics, and features to both Battle Royale and Save the World modes. Fortnitemares arrives as part of patch update v6.20, which includes various gameplay tweaks and adjustments across the board.

Fortnitemares introduces a new threat to Fortnite Battle Royale called the Cube Monster, as well as two new weapons: the Six Shooter and the Fiend Hunter Crossbow. “During Fortnitemares, you’ll face off against Cube Monsters in a whole new way of playing Battle Royale,” explains Epic in today’s blog post. “Take out the Cube Fiends and Fragments to pick up loot, and survive against enemy players.”

Fortnitemares also comes with a new set of free challenges for players to tackle, which reward players with new cosmetic items upon completion. Finishing the final set of Fortnitemares challenges in Battle Royale will reward players with the Dark Engine glider, allowing players to arrive via a spooky ghost train. Here’s what the first set of Fortnitemares challenges entail:

  • Destroy Cube Monsters
  • Deal damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to Cube Monsters
  • Visit a Corrupted Area in different matches
  • Dance at different Gargoyles

While challenges are all well and good, one of the main draws of the new Fortnitemares event is the new Deadfire Outfit, a reactive skin that changes based on the player’s in-game performance. “The outfit will progress through 2 styles based on the damage you deal enemies (players and AI) and how long you last in a match,” says Epic. The Deadfire skin comes with the Shackled Stone Back Bling, and players can also pick up the reactive Dark Shard pickaxe in the Store to go with their new outfit.

Fortnitemares has descended upon Save the World mode as well, introducing new story quests for players to complete within a revamped Halloween-themed environment. Players can look forward to picking up the Brainiac Jonesy and Skull Ranger Ramirez characters (which are free to Fortnite founders), along with the new Rat Rod weapon set and other wicked goodies that are still on the way.

Fortnitemares arrives just in time for the weekly challenges to roll over on Thursday. If you haven’t finished the most recent challenges for Week 4, make sure you know where to find every shooting gallery location and how to ring doorbells with enemies inside prior to embarking on your Halloween haunt in Fortnite.
