Additionally, the v17.21 Update added a strange alien ship that can be found hovering above The Aftermath. It’ll be interesting to see this situation develop, with the patch notes indicating the ship’s purpose will become clear in the “near future”.

Fortnite v17.21 Update Adds Plasma Cannon to Game

A new weapon has been added to Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7, the Plasma Cannon. Added through the v17.21 Update, the Plasma Cannon can either be found in IO Chests (and regular ones) or crafted by combining a Legendary Pistol with Alien Nanites.

“Found in IO Chests and normal ones, the Plasma Cannon has enough energy to fire five plasma balls,” notes the v17.21 Update post on the Fortnite blog.

“What’s the big deal about these? An electrical dome will surround them as they slowly move forward, and enemies who get caught in the dome will take heavy damage and be impulsed back. Vehicles are affected in the same way.

Tip: if you find a way to keep enemies in the dome even when impulsed, they will take repeated damage.

How the Plasma Cannon affects buildings is a different story. Fearing Aliens may prove to be advanced architects, the IO made it so that the Plasma Cannon destroys structures just about instantly.”

The description of what the Plasma Cannon can do feels somewhat reminiscent of the charge shot fired by UFOs. The Plasma Cannon isn’t the only new addition in v17.21 either, as a mysterious spaceship can now be seen hovering over The Aftermath.

“An unusual Alien ship is hovering over The Aftermath… The IO says ‘unusual’ because its intent doesn’t seem to be for harm. It’s predicted its purpose will become clearer in the near future.”

Finally, two details were mentioned in the v17.21 Update post for Fortnite players to keep in mind. These include the Plasma Cannon not being present in competitive playlists, and the Inflate-A-Bull being re-enabled in competitive playlists.
