Fortnite servers went down early this morning to apply content update v4.4, which introduces stink bombs to Fortnite Battle Royale. The latest patch update consists of just a few major changes, but they’re changes worth knowing about. We’ve listed the highlights from today’s official patch notes for Fortnite update v4.4 below.
Fortnite Update v4.4 Overview
Stink Bombs
One of the key features of today’s update is the Stink Bomb, a new explosive that creates a stinky cloud that damages players over time. Players who are caught within an enemy Stink Bomb cloud will incur five points of damage every half-second.
Stink Bombs can be found in stacks of three within chests, vending machines, and as floor loot. They come in Epic Rarity, which means they shouldn’t be too common, but not impossible to find, either.
Final Fight: Teams of 20 LTM
Alongside Fortnite update v4.4 comes a new limited time mode (LTM) called Final Fight: Teams of 20. This new LTM plays similarly to a regular match of Battle Royale, only this time the storms stop shrinking after the third storm circle. At that point, the circles stop closing in and a final countdown timer begins.
Teams must battle it out until the timer expires, and the team with the most players remaining at the end of the timer wins. This means that more than one team can achieve victory in Final Fight by ending in a tie.
Rocket Nerf
Today’s Fortnite patch update also applied a significant nerf to rockets, reducing the maximum number of unloaded Rocket Ammo players can carry to 12. While this may not seem like a huge change, it does have some notable implications in terms of gameplay.
The rocket nerf aims to address the issue of ‘rocket spam’, which happened mostly near the end of a match where players would depend on rockets to knock down player-made towers and structures. Reducing the rocket launcher to just 12 rockets will force players to conserve their rocket ammo to optimize their use, which essentially lowers the effectiveness of rocket launchers and shifts the focus to other explosive items, such as C4. The long-term effects of the rocket nerf remain to be seen, but hopefully it is for the better.
There you have it. Those were some of the major highlights from content update v4.4 for Fortnite Battle Royale. Save the World received just a quick bug fix as well as a new 8-Bit Demo Constructor skin, which is available now in the Event Store.
