Fortnite Season 3 is scheduled to kick off this week, bringing a new theme and Battle Pass to Fortnite Battle Royale. Ahead of the scheduled update, developer Epic Games has released a breakdown of what the new Season 3 Battle Pass has in store.
According to a recent blog post from Epic, Season 3 will take players to the far reaches of space in Fortnite Battle Royale. Players can look forward to sporting a full-body space suit, which makes for a fiery descent from the Battle Bus.
For those unfamiliar with how Fortnite’s Battle Pass works, the Battle Pass is a way for players to earn exclusive loot as a reward for completing specific missions. Battle Pass owners can purchase higher tiers to earn even more rewards.
Upon purchasing the Season 3 Battle Pass for Fortnite Battle Royale, players will instantly unlock a handful of in-game items including the aforementioned space suit, called the Mission Specialist Outfit. Playing Fortnite Battle Royale throughout the season allows you to unlock more tiers and subsequently earn more rewards.
Though the general concept is the same, Fortnite’s Season 3 Battle Pass will work somewhat differently than it did in Season 2. First, the Season 3 Battle Pass will have 30 more tiers than the previous season, making 100 tiers total.
Epic emphasizes that although they’ve added more tiers, the Season 3 Battle Pass should take the same amount of time to complete as Season 2, roughly 75-150 hours depending on the player. If you really want to save time, you can purchase tiers at 150 V-Bucks apiece to speed up the process.
Rather than Daily Challenges, the new Battle Pass will also feature stackable Weekly Challenges that can be completed throughout the season. Players who plan on buying the Battle Pass can pick up the Season 3 Battle Bundle for 2800 V-Bucks, which includes the Battle Pass and 25 unlocked Tiers.
The Season 3 Battle Pass will be available for purchase once Fortnite Season 3 begins this week. While no release date was mentioned in Epic’s blog post, an Epic Games employee clarified Season 3’s timeframe over on Reddit, stating that Season 3 will start on February 22 and will run until April 30.
You can read more about the Season 3 Battle Pass over on the Epic Games blog. Until then, you can still pick up some Lunar New Year outfits and Dragon weapons during the Fortnite Spring It On event, which is currently underway.
