Forspoken Devs Using AMD Tech to Achieve “Highest Quality Visuals Ever Seen in an Open World Game”

Breathtaking.

In an AMD Tech Showcase video for Forspoken shared by IGN, it was revealed that Luminous Productions is working to achieve, “The highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game.” It’s an ambitious goal to put in place, though from what we’ve seen of the game so far, Luminous Productions seems well on their way towards accomplishing this task.

Luminous Productions is utilizing AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech as part of the development of their upcoming game, Forspoken.

“With Forspoken, we are aiming to achieve the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game,” explains Takeshi Aramaki, Studio Head and General Manager of Luminous Productions. “Our studio’s vision is ‘to create games unlike anything experienced before, fusing the world’s latest technologies with art.’”

Thanks to the technology from AMD, Forspoken has reportedly seen a performance boost when running at 4K and 60fps. As for how this performance boost is accomplished using this tech, this is elaborated upon in the IGN article that first reported on Luminous Productions and how they’re using AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution as part of Forspoken’s development.

For the full breakdown, be sure to read through IGN’s article, or check out the video shared by IGN featuring Takeshi Aramaki of Luminous Productions. Ultimately, this tech uses supersampling where a lower-resolution image is upscared to a larger resolution image, putting less strain on the hardware by allowing it to only render that smaller image.

With the burden of resolution processing removed, performance can be focused on to an even greater extent. One of the many things we find interesting about all of this is that Forspoken won’t be the only game to utilize AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech.

On the AMD website, Far Cry 6 is also listed as one of the upcoming games that’ll use this tech as well. It’ll be interesting to compare the visuals of Far Cry 6 to a game like Forspoken, and to see how developers take advantage of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech in the future.

While we wait to see more of Forspoken’s visuals, we’re curious to hear what you think about the goal of Luminous Productions to achieve the highest quality visuals of any open world game. Do you think they’ll be able to accomplish this goal using AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech?
