During a roundtable interview with the development team of Final Fantasy XVI, we learned that the game will feature multiple new modes for players to engage with after the main campaign is complete.
This information comes from FFXVI Producer Naoki Yoshida, who told us, “We have different types of play modes, different types of side content, things like an arcade mode where you, you battle for scores, and then you can compete on the world leaderboard and compare your scores to other players.”
Final Fantasy XVI Will Feature An Arcade Mode With Global Leaderboards
This ties into Final Fantasy XVI’s focus on action combat. With Combat Director Ryota Suzuki (Devil May Cry V, Marvel vs. Capcom 2) at the helm, the team is clearly focusing on additional game modes for players to hone their skills.
Having a global leaderboard for the Arcade Mode in Final Fantasy XVI is a way for the team to provide an incentive with a high skill ceiling. While the team didn’t indicate other modes the game will offer, we know there will be a grading system akin to Devil May Cry for players who have completed the main campaign. They can then go play through the game again with the grading system to see how they stack up.
After our roughly two-hour demo of the game, it’s clear that the combat system in Final Fantasy XVI is deep and intricate. It will provide players with plenty to sink their teeth into and master.
We’re excited to learn about the other modes available in the game and how players will learn to manipulate the combat and the different Eikon abilities in their favor.
