In the first chapter of our Final Fantasy X walkthrough, Tidus and company had just finished competing in the Luca Blitzball tournament and were on their way to the Djose Temple. Our second chapter will help you get through the Mi’Ihen Highroad all the way to Maester Seymour’s home of Guadosalam.

Not long after entering the Highroad the party is attacked and Tidus learns a thing or two about hard-shelled enemies that require weapons with the Piercing ability to do any real damage. As you travel the Highroad make sure to speak with everyone as most of them will present an offering to Yuna for her journey. After meeting the Chocobo Knights move to the alcove on the left to meet another summoner named Belgemine who challenges Yuna to a test of strength as a summoner. Before the battle Belgemine will restore your Aeons to full health and once the battle begins she will summon Ifrit so Yuna must summon Valefor. Ifrit hits hard and is immune to the slowing effect of sonic wings so the best way to win this fight is to begin with either Yuna of Valefor’s Overdrive gauge filled, allowing Valefor to immediately unleash Energy Ray and gain a huge head start. Win or lose, Belgemine hands over a ring for Yuna.
Continue north past Belgemine and learn more about Spira as you approach the Travel Station. When you leave the next morning the party meets Rin who explains more about the Al Bhed language and hands over the Al Bhed Primer Vol. VIII before a commotion breaks out, the Chocobos are in danger!
BOSS ENCOUNTER: CHOCOBO EATER
HP: 10,000
AP: 90
Gil: 970
Drops: Lv. 1 Keysphere x2 (Only if defeated by pushing off the cliff)
Steal: Potion
Elemental Attributes: 1.5x damage from fire
Other Notes: Hard-shelled enemy
Anything that eats Chocobos is certainly deserving of your respect so don’t take this one too lightly or you’ll find yourself at the bottom of a cliff before you know it. Every few turns the Chocobo Eater will use its long arms to push the party back toward the edge of a cliff and should you fall off, you will fail to receive any rewards for your efforts but the good news is that you can push back. Attack the Chocobo Eater with Auron or Khimari’s piercing weapons and have Lulu cast Fire, once the boss has taken enough damage it will be knocked on its back. While flipped over the Chocobo Eater’s hard shell is negated and every 500 points of damage taken will cause it to be pushed away from the party toward its own side of the cliff; Pushing the beast over the edge of the cliff will finish the fight and save the Chocobos.
With the Chocobos safe Rin rewards you with a free Chocobo ride next time you need one and the way north is now clear. You can either hop a ride on a Chocobo at the Travel agency to head north or travel on foot and there are benefits to both. While astride a Chocobo you will not encounter fiends and are able to access treasures that would otherwise be out of reach so our recommendation is to travel north to the Mushroom Rock gates on foot, gaining additional sphere levels then grab a ride with the Chocobo attendant there to run back and grab the treasures. Whatever you choose, make sure to grab the Al Bhed Primer Vol. IX that Shelinda drops when she falls off her Chocobo and the Mars crest far down south on the lower path of the Highroad.
At the entrance to Mushroom Rock the group learns about the joint operation, speak to everyone to eventually gain access. On the path north, speak with the patrolling Crusaders to receive a variety of helpful items and when you’ve finished exploring the area for treasure speak with Luzzu and ride up to the command center. It’s recommended that you gain enough sphere levels for Lulu to learn Fira, Thundara, Blizzara and Watera before proceeding as they will make some of the upcoming fights much easier. When you’re ready to witness the operation, follow the red marker on your map and speak to the Crusaders to begin.
BOSS ENCOUNTER: SINSPAWN GUI
HP: Head – 4,000 | Arms – 800 each | Body – 12,000
AP: None
Gil: None
Drops: None
Steal: None
Elemental Attributes: Absorbs lightning, 0.5x damage from water
Gui has several moving parts that need to be accounted for at all times meaning that each of your turns needs to count. The beast’s head and arms can be targeted separately and killed off but the arms will regenerate after several turns and the fight is not over until the main body is destroyed. Using Lulu can remove an arm each turn with Blizzara or Fira and it’s important to keep Wakka ready to target the head to prevent its nasty Venom attack and to remove it from the battle quickly since the head will not regenerate during the fight. Once the threat of the head is gone cast haste on your party members and make sure everyone gets an opportunity to hit the boss to claim the AP reward when it falls.
BOSS ENCOUNTER: SINSPAWN GUI ROUND 2
HP: Head – 1,000 | Arms – 800 each | Body – 6,000
AP: Head – 48 | Arms – 37 each | Body – 400
Gil: 1,000
Drops: Lv. 1 Key Sphere x6
Steal: None
Elemental Attributes: None
This isn’t so much as a fight as it is a demonstration of you guest party member’s overwhelming magical power. Destroy Gui’s head and arms first then level your most powerful attacks at its body to quickly end this fight (though if you are feeling up to it, allow your temporary party member’s Overdrive gauge to fill for the only opportunity to see their unique attack). Once the beast has fallen for good the party finally receives their hard earned AP and the way to Djose is cleared allowing you to continue the pilgrimage.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XI
Speak to the survivors of the operation to receive a variety of items as you move north, making sure not to miss the AL Bhed Primer Vol. XI hidden behind a rock in the first area. The Djose Highroad is fairly short and before long the party finds themselves outside the Djose Temple.
Rest up, use the save sphere and prepare to enter the longest trial yet!
- Place a Djose Sphere in each of the slots on the doors in the first are to move on.
- Move the Djose Spheres from either side of the door and place them in the wall to the east to activate the upside-down pedestal then push the
central pedestal under it to supercharge the Djose Sphere it holds - Place the charged Djose Sphere to the right of the door to open it and access the next chamber.
- Place the Djose Spheres from the eastern wall onto the pedestal then reset its position with the switch to the west.
- Push the pedestal with the two Djose Spheres into the next room to create a way across the lightning then push the pedestal into the wall on the other side.
- Head back across the lightning and step on the reset switch to bring the pedestal back in from the lightning room then place the spheres from the pedestal into the slots in the walls in the very first chamber.
- Move the charged Djose Sphere from the right slot on the wall to the left to complete the activation of the sigil on the floor and create an elevator.
- Ride the elevator up and push each of the five pedestals in the northern room into the wall to open a staircase to the inner chamber and to create a glyph on the lower level
- Head back down the elevator and examine the new glyph on the wall to reveal Djose Temple’s Destruction Sphere then take it upstairs and place it in the central pedestal to access a chest containing a Magic Sphere.
- Once you’ve obtained the treasure, head up the stairs on the upper level to gain a new Aeon for Yuna.
With the Djose Temple complete it is time to continue the pilgrimage north through the Moonflow toward Macalania and the next temple.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XII
There are a few minor scuffles along the road including another encounter with Khimari’s old friends from Luca and another challenge from Belgemine. Like before, Belgemine summons your newest Aeon so build up Yuna or Ifrit’s Overdrive gauge prior to accepting to make the fight easier and this time you have a backup Aeon at your disposal. Win or lose, Belgemine hands over the Summoner’s Soul and the ability to teach additional techniques to your Aeons and should you best her you will receive some Dragon Scales as well. Continue north and before long you’ll find yourself in the presence of the legendary Shoopuf. Before you take a ride, give Tidus and Wakka weapons with lightning strike because they will need them soon.
BOSS ENCOUNTER: EXTRACTOR
HP: 4,000
AP: 660
Gil: 2,400
Drops: Mega Phoenix
Steal: Mega Potion
Elemental Attributes: 1.5x damage from lightning, 0.5x damage from fire, ice and water
While you have a greatly reduced party in this battle, it is fairly straightforward. Assuming you have weapons with lightning strike just cast haste on both Wakka and Tidus and attack each round, healing when necessary with Hi-Potions and the machina will fall quickly.
Once you reach the north shore at last, don’t miss the Al Bhed Primer Vol. XII on the platform above O’aka and move on to meet up with the newest and last member of your ragtag group of Guardians, bringing the second leg of your journey to an end.
