Ubisoft has unleashed a new teaser trailer for the next entry in the Far Cry franchise, just ahead of The Game Awards 2018, which airs on Thursday evening. The video hints at a possible post-apocalyptic theme for the next Far Cry game, which would be set after the events of the previous titles.
The teaser trailer showcases a farm setting that becomes ravaged by the effects of a bomb explosion, which is indicated by the huge mushroom cloud that detonates in the background. The teaser leads up to a worldwide reveal that is scheduled to air during The Game Awards on December 6.
The off-screen narrator mentions a world that “turned cold and dark,” with “years of rain” and “howling winds.” The trailer alludes to a world where people have turned hostile toward one another in their struggle for survival.
While it appears that the next Far Cry game will draw inspiration from post-apocalyptic contemporaries like Fallout, the official theme is still anyone’s guess. Watch the teaser trailer below if you wish to come up with theories of your own.
To find out more about Ubisoft’s plans for the next Far Cry, tune in to The Game Awards tomorrow night 5:30 p.m. PST to find out what’s in store.
