A while back, we reported on the rumor that Ubisoft had registered a domain for The Expendables 2, suggesting that the company was working with Lionsgate and Sylvester Stallone on a video game adaptation of the upcoming sequel. Well, today, the developer confirmed that it is indeed in the works.
In the game, which looks a bit like the new-school Contra games, as well as EA’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, you battle your way through jungles and all sorts of terrain battling enemies, using four of the Expendables – Barney Ross, Gunner Jensen, Hale Caesar and Yin Yang – to fend them off. You’re out to rescue a kidnapped billionaire, but the task doesn’t turn out to be that easy, as the ones who grabbed him in the first place have no desire to let him go.
The game supports both local and online run and gun play, and also features plenty of cinematic, close quarters combat and vehicle use as you destroy enemies and collect plenty of guns. You can also play through online leaderboards, challenging buddies to top your best times.
No word yet if Stallone or other actors from the film will reprise their roles here, but it definitely looks like shoot-em-up fun. Look for it to arrive alongside the movie this August.
