Everything New in Monster Train 2 Revealed So Far

While the game largely builds on the existing mechanics of the first title, there are several new additions that players will need to take into account. Here are all the new features, mechanics, and content in Monster Train 2 based on the demo released by the developers on Steam.

New Features in Monster Train 2

Here are some of the new additions we’ve seen so far in Monster Train 2 based on the demo and the Steam page!

  • Five New Clans: There are five new clans that players can choose from including Banished, Pyreborn, Luna Coven, Underlegion, and Lazarus League. Players will decide on a Primary and Secondary clan before departing. The first two are available in the demo.
  • Room Cards: Room cards can be installed on the train floor, adding a gameplay effect that persists until the end of the battle. Each floor can only have one room effect active at a time.
  • Equipment Cards: These cards can be attached to a unit inside the train. Once attached, the unit will get a bonus. Each unit card can be buffed with one equipment card at a time. For instance, “Lava Armor” gives players the Revenge bonus that applies Pyregal 3 to the attacker.
  • There’s a story now: The first Monster Train was a purely gameplay experience with some background lore, but there’s an actual story this time around with named characters, unique dialogue, and more.
  • Active Skills: Some champions now come with an active skill, capped by cooldowns, that you can use during battle.
  • Dragon Eggs: These are an additional form of currency that players can earn during a run and hold for more rewards. They can cash them right away too, but there’s a fun risk and reward element tied to them.
  • Train Customization: One of the most requested features in the original title, players can finally customize their trains in the sequel by unlocking new parts. This feature isn’t available in the demo but should be fun to mess around with once the game releases.
  • Pyre Hearts: Pyre Hearts serve as a modifier that shakes up the entire run with new gameplay mechanics. These are selected before departing and will apparently play a role in the story as well.
  • Daily Challenges: Players will be able to take on a challenge run every single day with a hugely modified run featuring brand new mutators, as well as some returning old favorites. Yes, there’s a leaderboard too!
  • Endless Mode: Players will travel the rails with ever-increasing difficulty to test their skills and see how long they can survive.
  • New cards, enemies, effects, and abilities!

These are just some of the features we’ve spotted

Monster Train 2 Platforms

Monster Train 2 Demo

Players can now download the demo for Monster Train 2 directly through Steam. It contains a complete run with two clans including the Banished and Pyreborne.

Despite the full run, several features are locked during the demo, for obvious reasons. Dedicated fans can also provide feedback during the run by hitting F8.
