In a new update from Epic Games, details about the upcoming Fortnite World Cup and related esports events were revealed. Starting on April 13 and lasting until June 16, players will be able to participate in Online Open qualifiers for the Fortnite World Cup Finals.
As added incentive, there will be a $10 million dollar prize pool available, with $1 million on the line for each week. Once the top qualifiers have been determined, they’ll be invited to participate in the Fortnite World Cup Finals.
“The road to the Fortnite World Cup begins with ten weekly Online Open qualifiers running from April 13 to June 16. Each week $1,000,000 will be on the line for eligible* Fortnite players, with payouts distributed broadly,” Epic Games explained.
The Finals are scheduled to rune from July 26 through July 28, and will be held in New York City. During the Finals, 50 Duo teams and 100 Solo players will face off, with a whopping $30 million dollar prize pool on the line.
Each player will be guaranteed at least $50,000 and the Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion will walk away $3 million dollars richer. After the World Cup concludes, new weekly tournaments will go live in Fortnite, each offering a $1 million dollar prize.
For those uninterested in the Battle Royale aspect of Fortnite, Epic Games confirmed they’ll be hosting additional events at the Fortnite World Cup Finals that offer different formats and modes. Furthermore, there will be new weekly tournaments available after the Fortnite World Cup Finals conclude.
“We will continue to award $1,000,000 in cash tournaments weekly through the end of this year. These tournaments will feature a wider variety of modes and formats to open up the competitive playing field. We will also provide tournament tools and prizing to select partners to better serve competitive Fortnite in more countries and regions around the world.”
