EDF! EDF! EDF! After launching in Japan in 2020 and doing quite well, a release date for our turn with Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is upon us like so many giant ants and spiders. This voxel-style, much sillier (how is that possible though) version of cult classic series Earth Defense Force will touch down on the PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch on May 27, 2021.

World Brothers is still developed by YUKE’S, but the visual style is a huge departure. This cute, new look joins a more celebratory kind of game, rather than a new “core” entry. Content from the whole Earth Defense Force series will appear, along with new stuff, all in this goofy, blocky style.

Along with celebrating the EDF series’ history overall, World Brothers also marks the first appearance of an Earth Defense Force game on a Nintendo platform. No, Super Defense Force on the Super Nintendo doesn’t count. It’s different. Promise. The series made a transition to PC only recently, with most of the other games living on PlayStation consoles. You can also find EDF games for the Xbox 360 and PS Vita, but no further for obvious reasons.
