Epic Games has shown off forthcoming Unreal Engine 4 in a real-time tech demo.

The footage was shown during Gametrailers TV yesterday, giving us a brief hint at how games could look in the coming generation.

Epic made some very public demands with regards to Microsoft and Sony back in March this year, calling on the companies to create their next consoles as powerful as is “economically possible” in order to ensure they “remain relevant for another generation”.

Epic’s senior technical artist Alan Willard talked Gametrailers through some of the engine’s capabilities, explaining some of the editor’s new features along the way. Previous incarnations of the engine have been used in hundreds of games, will this newer edition prove as popular? Only time will tell.
