Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb announced on his blog today that the latest free title for Xbox Live Gold members has officially gone live – and it’s a doozy if you’re a fan of strategic action games.

Defense Grid: The Awakening is now available, and it’s free of charge to members of the service running from today through July 15.  At that time, a new title will be up for grabs.  Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed II have been confirmed for release in the program somewhere down the road.
