Day 1 Studios is back on the warpath with an incoming title – and Wargaming.net is leading the charge.
The team, known to be one of the leading free-to-play MMO developers and publishers on the market today, have acquired Day 1 Studios in a stellar $20 million purchase, going under the new name WarGaming West. The purchase is a new move by the company, one that will eventually bring them to the console gaming front, a change from their PC-only strategy.
The developer, known for such efforts as the Mechassault games, F.3.A.R. and Fracture, is currently working on an “unannounced console title”, which WarGaming is likely to reveal sometime this year, perhaps even at one of the Penny Arcade Expo events.
“The move into console game development is a huge step for WarGaming, as we begin to expand our presence into new platforms,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of WarGaming. “We are looking forward to sharing the fruits of our labor soon.”
“WarGaming is a clear leader in the free-to-play space and helps set the standard on which all other games in the genre strive for,” said Denny Thorley, new Head of War Gaming’s Chicago-based studio. “Our team is extremely excited to start the first console project for WarGaming.”
Congrats to both parties, and we look forward to seeing what’s next from them.
