Dave the Diver, an award-winning masterpiece from MINTROCKET, has just released physical copies and a collector’s edition, and they’re reasonably priced, too. This comes amidst continued backlash aimed at Sony for their decision to end Physical Media.

This version of Dave the Diver, dubbed The Complete Edition, includes the full game, including several high-profile crossovers.

There are physical copies available for PS5 and the Nintendo Switch 2, with the base copies priced at €49.99 and the collector’s edition at €79.99. The base game includes:

  • Base game
  • In the Jungle DLC
  • Dredge DLC
  • Godzilla DLC
  • GGST DLC (Guilty Gear Strive)
  • Digital Soundtrack

There are more cameos in the game, too, with Balatro (one of my favorites) also making an appearance.

The collector’s edition adds the following:

  • Bancho Sushi Restaurant Acrylic Standee
  • 4 Metal Pins
  • Acrylic Keyring
  • Dolphin Pendant Necklace
  • 2 Marinca Cards
  • Poster
  • 4 Postcards

In case you’re unfamiliar with Dave the Diver, you play as Dave… a diver (but you probably could’ve guessed that much). You are tasked with exploring the mysterious Blue Hole during the day, catching enough fish on your trips down to supply the sushi restaurant, headed up by chef Bancho.

So, every day, you’ll catch fish, fight off sharks, and maybe even spot a few whales. You’ll also discover ever stranger creatures the deeper you go. Some of those fish are seriously the stuff of nightmares. Go ahead, do a web search for Goblin Shark. You’re welcome.

At night, you’ll help Bancho and Dave (the investor) run the sushi restaurant, serving customers, hiring staff, and improving the dishes on offer.

It’s great fun, and a long play, too, easily keeping players busy for upwards of 50 hours, though the main story itself should only run half of that.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dave the Diver, and I highly recommend giving it a go if you haven’t yet. Just looking at the screenshots is enough to hit me with a wave of pleasant nostalgia. Might be time to start up another playthrough.

As a lifetime gamer, I was around to enjoy the NES, witness the birth of the PS1, and live through the golden age that was the PS2. My favorite game (no doubt driven by nostalgia) is Final Fantasy VII, but I'm always on the lookout for my new favorite.
