Cyberpunk 2077 Returns to the PlayStation Store June 21

Breathtaking.

CD Projekt Red recently shared the good news that Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store, with the return date set to June 21. The news comes in the form of a small, and somewhat hard to find press release, with confirmation coming later on from Sony Interactive Entertainment themselves.

Cyberpunk 2077 Returns to the PlayStation Store June 21

Six months months have passed since Cyberpunk 2077 was delisted from the PlayStation Store back in December of 2020. Since then, work has continued on Cyberpunk 2077 to get the game in a more playable state for consoles like PS4.

It seems like all of that work on CD Projekt Red’s end has finally paid off as Cyberpunk 2077 is officially returning to the PlayStation Store on June 21. The news was first shared by CD Projekt Red in a brief press release and reported on by IGN who shared additional confirmation from Sony Interactive Entertainment as well.

Unfortunately, the statement made to IGN by Sony Interactive Entertainment seems to indicate there’s still more work to be done. While the game will be available for purchase and playable on PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5, Sony recommends that only those with a PS4 Pro and PS5 purchase a copy of the game.

The reason for this being ongoing performance issues on last-gen consoles – in this case, performance issues on PS4. Speaking to IGN, Sony stated:

“SIE can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021. Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”

We imagine that Cyberpunk 2077’s performance on PS4 will continue to improve, and for those who’ve been itching to buy the game for PS4, having the opportunity to do so is nice. It’s also nice to see CD Projekt Red continuing to make progress on getting Cyberpunk 2077 where it needs to be.

We’re looking forward to seeing how Cyberpunk 2077 performs now on PS4 Pro and PS5, and how bad the performance issues still are on PS4 (for Sony to make that statement). While we wait for June 21, we’re curious to hear your thoughts on the news.
