With Crysis 3 available in stores now, a few people are probably wondering, “Hey, how come it didn’t come out for Wii U?”  Well, at one point, it looked like it was just about to.

In a conversation with Venture Beat, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli revealed that the project was actually running along a bit further than everyone thinks.  “We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U,” he admits.  “We were very close to launching it.  But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that.  Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don’t have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on the Wii U had to die.”

It’s a shame something couldn’t have been worked out, because Crysis 3 is one of those neat little shooters that would’ve benefitted from the GamePad, especially with item selection and possible off-screen play.  And the fact Nintendo couldn’t work out a publishing deal – even on its own front – is a bit sad.

Regardless, you can still enjoy Crysis 3 now, as it’s available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
