Is Criterion Backing Away From Racing Games?

The team behind Burnout Paradise and Need For Speed: Most Wanted is working on something new.

If there’s one thing that the team at Criterion Games knows, it’s how to make an enjoyable racing game.  That’s been proven over the last few years with such efforts as Burnout Paradise, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and the recently released Most Wanted.  Now it looks like the team may be trying something new…

According to a Twitter post from the team’s creative director Alex Ward (over at @AlexanderJWard), something new is in the works but we’re just not sure what just yet.

Said Ward, “After over a decade of making racing games, it’s time to make something new.  It is early days thus I have nothing to ‘announce’ or talk about.”

The team has branched away from racing before with the release of the PS2/Xbox shooter Black, which turned out to be better than expected.  Could we possibly be seeing a sequel to that?

Once we get more word on what the team is up to, we’ll let you know.  In the meantime, let the pondering begin!
