This afternoon the creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, also known online as ConcernedApe, has revealed a new project called “ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier”
The Creator of Stardew Valley Reveals New Game Called ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier
The game, which has a trailer you can check out below, Eric also posted a letter on the Haunted Cholclatier website explaining why and how this game exists. Here’s an excerpt from the letter.
“Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the allure of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important. However, don’t think for a moment that, because this game features ghosts in a haunted castle, it is an evil or negative game. On the contrary, I intend for this game to be positive, uplifting and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley mostly channeled the energy of the sun, Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Both are vital”
The game is still pretty early in development and the vertical slice shown in the trailer is just that, a vertical slice, Eric points out in the letter that there is still a ton of content that needs to be made.
The trailer shows off a hefty amount though, between gathering materials in forests to decorating, baking, and selling your chocolates at your store, there is a wide array of stuff to do. It’s also got the charm of Stardew down while bringing its own vibes to the table.
Either way, it’s an exciting announcement to know that a new game from the Stardew Valley creator is real and happening. Now let’s just hope we don’t all lose another few hundred hours of our lives to another game.
