Could Road Rash Be Making a Kickstarter Comeback?

One of the co-designers behind the Genesis racing series is thinking about going at it again.

Back in its heyday, Road Rash was the go-to series for both action and racing, with three releases on the Sega Genesis and a solid move into the next generation on 3DO, PlayStation and Sega Saturn.  However, since that time, we haven’t really heard too much from the series, aside from a planned EA reboot that didn’t pan out as the company anticipated.

But don’t give up hope yet.  A Reddit user asked about the return of the series, to which the co-designer, Dan Geisler, was happy to respond.  “It hasn’t resurfaced because I was burned out after Road Rash 3,” Dan stated.  “But I’m ready to do another one now.”

He stated how much he missed the series and was even considering a Kickstarter in order to get funding going on a new one.  However, he would “need to talk with EA to get the rights,” and if that couldn’t happen, he could always make a similar game in the spirit of the original Rash.  And though the game would likely be rendered in 3D, it would maintain the physics of the original games – “because reality tends to suck”.

We’ll let you know once an official funding campaign kicks off.  But, yeah, we’d be open to Road Rash’s return.  Nothing beats taking down a competitor with a crowbar to the helmet…
