Control Reveals Gameplay From Alan Wake DLC

We are always down for more Alan Wake.

Fans were delighted to hear a familiar voice and see the familiar face of Alan Wake when Control revealed its upcoming AWE expansion. While many want to believe AWE stands for Alan Wake Experience or something similar, it doesn’t, but it does at least contain a bit of Wake. That said, a new gameplay video shows off a bit more of what to expect.

For those who don’t know, AWE stands for Altered World Events, which are the peculiar things that take place in Control that Jesse just seems to love investigating. Well, of course she does considering she is the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. However, the upcoming expansion will have new content, side missions, and more for players to enjoy, including some Mr. Wake as one of the events Jesse needs to investigate is what took place in Bright Falls. The gameplay that was shown during a recent livestream doesn’t show off a ton as to not spoil anything, but we do get a good look at what’s to come.

As it turns out, Alan Wake has spent the past 10 years trapped somewhere called “The Dark Place.” However, he finally got over that writer’s block. “Alan Wake is writing again, and you’ll be finding pages of his writing,” creative director Sam Lake said during the livestream. “The story he’s creating is affecting reality here. You can experience the full pages through the hotline menu in the game.”

The AWE expansion will be adding an additional 4 to 5 hours of gameplay to what Control already has. It will do this by adding new jobs from Ahti, a new enemy known as the Airborne Ranger, and they are essentially adding the light mechanic from the Alan Wake game. In addition to this, the new content will also kind of uncover what actually took place in the Alan Wake game, because we all know how straight forward, clear and cut that story was. To top all of this off, the expansion includes an “Assist Mode” that will allow players to change settings such as how much damage Jesse can take, her energy recharge rate, and more. Needless to say, it’s going to be a good time for Control players and Alan Wake fans alike.
