The Coalition Talks About What’s Next For Gears of War

The Coalition has treated fans itching for Gears of War news with a brief update that goes over what’s next for games like Gears 5, along with what fans can expect from future Gears titles. Namely, that new projects from The Coalition will be developed on Unreal Engine 5.

Starting with Gears 5, additional content for the game will be released in the form of Operations 7 and 8. With each Operation, Gears 5 players can look forward to new maps, new characters, and special events. The Coalition notes that Gears 5 will have store updates with “exciting new content” available through the end of this year.

“Gears 5 has content on the way, and we’ll continue to release new operations through Operations 7 and 8. Each Operation will have two drops including new characters, new maps, and special events. Through the end of the year, we will have store updates with exciting new content as well as featured playlists.”

In regards to future Gears of War titles, The Coalition talks briefly about shifting their resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5. Multiple projects are mentioned, though The Coalition says they aren’t ready to announce anything specific at this time.

“As we look to future games, we’re excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5.

Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year’s 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we’re excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years.

Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time.”

It’ll be interesting to learn more about The Coalition’s unannounced projects in the future, especially with them being developed for next-gen using Unreal Engine 5.

It’s also exciting in general to hear that “multiple” projects are being developed, and that while we wait to hear more about these projects, we’ll have a plethora of new Gears 5 content to dig into. More Gears content is good Gears content in our opinion.

Stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to update you as soon as The Coalition shares new details about the projects they’re working on, and new Gears 5 content with Operations 7 and 8 as they’re released.
