Check Out the New Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic Boom to include new Wii U and 3DS game, TV series and toy line.

People can say whatever negative things they want about Sonic the Hedgehog games, the cartoons and even the comic books. Like it or not (we love it), he’s still incredibly popular, and Sega hopes to capitalize on this with Sonic Boom, a huge campaign that features a brand-new game for Wii U and 3DS, as well as an animated television series and toy line from TOMY.

Before we get into that, however, check out Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Notice anything different? Sega redesigned its heroes for the first time in a while. Notice the scarf around Sonic’s neck, Amy’s giant hammer, Tail’s newfound dorkiness and the fact that Knuckles is HUGE. Big as in, someone test that guy for banned substances!

As for Sonic Boom, and we’ll forgive you for thinking it’s a Street Fighter 2 reference, the aformentioned series will debut on Cartoon Network this year. We hear Eggman takes Sonic to court, where shenanigans will obviously ensue.

On top of that, TOMY will supply a line of collectible goodies, but most importantly, this is the second in a three game deal with Nintendo (Sonic Lost World being the first). Both the Wii U and 3DS versions will feature separate storylines and take advantage of each system’s strengths. The core gameplay mechanics, though, might be the same, with players harnessing each character’s abilities to outlast waves of enemies.

There aren’t many details, but we’ll have more on Sonic Boom throughout 2014. For now, let us know what you think of the character designs.
