Microsoft is kicking of it’s January Xbox Games with Gold lineup with the acclaimed indie platformer, Celeste. Those who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription can look forward to collecting this indie gem at the start of next year alongside several other free games, including Far Cry 2.
A year after its launch, Celeste will be available for free all month long for Xbox Live Gold members starting January 1st. Celeste received critical praise and even secured several nominations at this year’s The Game Awards, where it won Best Independent Game and Games for Impact. Alongside Celeste, Xbox Live Gold members can also pick up the racing game WRC 6, which will be available for free from January 16 to February 15.

As usual, two Xbox 360 games will be available in January as well, both of which are backward compatible with Xbox One. The first is the Tomb Raider spinoff Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which will be free January 1 – February 15. Far Cry 2 is up next, rounding out the second half of the month from January 16 to January 31.
There’s still time to download QUBE 2 and Never Alone for free if you still haven’t done so this month. Celeste is certainly worth downloading as well, so be sure to snag this indie darling in January before the deal is over.
