During the June 25 Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire livestream, CD Projekt RED officially confirmed that players who own Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be getting a free next-gen upgrade on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 post-launch.
It had already been confirmed by developers that players who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 and current-gen platforms, would be able to play the game for free on next-gen consoles. However, it now seems that in addition to the free move to next-gen, players will also be getting some type of next-gen enhanced update.
In case you weren’t aware, earlier this year the folks at Xbox announced that the Series X would feature a system called “Smart Delivery” which would allow current-gen games to be playable for free on the Series X, at the developer’s discretion. However, CD Projekt RED had already confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will take part in Smart Delivery on the Series X. However, since Sony hasn’t announced a similar feature, it was unclear if those who owned Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 players would be able to upgrade to a PS5 copy for free.
Additionally, earlier this week, Gemastu reported details from a developer conference call that seemingly revealed a next-gen update that would be coming for free to those who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and made the move to next-gen consoles. However, this info had yet to be officially announced to the public by CD Projekt Red. You can read the full statement from the developer conference call below.

“At some point we’re going to have a more robust update for the for the next-gens, which we’re planning to give free of charge to anybody who purchases the PS4 or Xbox One version, but in any case you will be able to play the game on the next-gens from the 19th of November when the game releases, and it will look better than on the next-gens from that moment.”
