Capcom Would “Love” to Make DMC: Devil May Cry 2

The controversial DMC could have a sequel if Capcom has their way.

Capcom’s 2013 DmC: Devil May Cry game put a different spin on the familiar hack-n-slash franchise, though it was met with very mixed reactions at launch. The team later released an improved version of the same title which saw a much more positive reception due to pacing correction and now that the bulk of the concerns have been addressed, the studio is prepping to possibly revisit the DmC take with a sequel!

“We’d still love to see a sequel,” said Capcom producer Matt Walker in a recent interview with US Gamer, “but we think it absolutely has to be made by Ninja Theory — so much of the amazing style and substance in that game was only possible because they have such a knack for what’s cool.”

Though the interest is there, there is one small hiccup: The Microsoft acquisition. Though the Xbox camp has been very open in recent years about breaking down console barriers, it’s still a fresh win for the company which could possibly hinder whether they want to explore a possible sequel or not. That, and would that sequel be an Xbox exclusive, which would be a first. That’s not to say it’s impossible, but it does sound improbable.

With the recent resounding success of Devil May Cry 5, more eyes are on this franchise than ever before. It makes sense that Capcom would want to capitalize on that, as would Microsoft. Still, the future of DmC is purely in “future goals” phase, but it would be interesting to see them take a stab at it once more given all the feedback regarding the first one.

Missed out on the retelling of Dante’s story? Here’s what you need to know:

“In this retelling of Dante’s origin story which is set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry™ retains the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge.

“The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or indeed society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group called “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement. “
