Capcom Announces the Return of Strider

“You dare fight me?!”

Capcom held its annual World of Capcom panel yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con, and you know how these panels can go.  There’s a lot of love for fans, a lot of talk about upcoming projects – in this case, Lost Planet 3 and DuckTales Remastered – and a new game that lurks in the shadows, only to take everyone by surprise. This time was certainly no exception, as the company announced the return of the Strider franchise.

Strider, which is in development at Double Helix along with staffers who worked on the original games, is a Metroidvania style adventure where you unlock new areas as you cut enemies down to size and explore new regions.  The game features elements from the original, including the return of your Cypher sword and the “bots” that help you in time of need, along with new power-ups, such as being able to deflect enemy bullets, throwing projectiles and using a “fire sword” to light enemies up.

We got a good look at the game in action and will provide a First Look soon.

Strider will arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, along with PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 early 2014.
