If you noticed the Okay Emote was missing from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it’s not just you. But as does Infinity Ward giveth, so shall they taketh away, and many were quick to notice that the OK Emote was mysteriously missing.

So why was the OK Emote removed? We actually don’t know because there was no official acknowledgment in the latest update’s patch about this. That being said, this symbol has changed in meaning through the years and with the Black Lives Matter movement at the forefront, it’s a good time to reconsider certain imagery.

RIP to the “okay” gesture from r/modernwarfare

A seemingly harmless gesture for a long time, over recent years it was turned into what many perceive as a hate symbol following a 4chan hoax that changed its meaning forever. Now, thanks to that, the OK symbol is synonymous with White Power and supremacist groups and is a major reason why it has been removed from so many games as a means of expression.

The comments also reflect that the connotation is the reason behind its removal, though the studio itself has yet to address the speculation and inquiries. Why it was included in the first place is a little bit up in the air; there are many other emote styles to choose from that can’t be misinterpreted. Still, it’s gone now and there are plenty of other new season drops to enjoy in its stead.
