2K Games’ ad campaign for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified has been dead serious of late, but for its latest trailer – which can be seen below, the publisher decided to kick back with a more humorous approach. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a lesson to be learned, however.

The trailer, titled “The Bureau: #YOLO”, shows the effects of permanent death under poor leadership.  Once you lose a cohort in the game, there’s no way to regenerate that person. You’ll need to start from scratch.

“Permadeath,” as the term is coined, has been a fixture in XCOM games over the years, including the 2012 release XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It helps teach players the value of their team, and makes them work harder to keep them alive with better battle tactics. It’s good to see that The Bureau follows the same guidelines – even if the YOLO clip takes a silly approach.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified releases August 20th for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
