Of Bird and Cage Gets a May 20 Release Date

You can also get a feel for the game by checking out its free demo.

Originally announced back in March during the Future Games Show, Of Bird and Cage is a video game and interactive metal album developed by Capricia Productions. During the game’s two hour runtime, players will be treated to some incredible music courtesy of talented artists like Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Ruud Jolie, Rob van der Loo, and more.

If you’ve been eager to dive in and give the game a try, good news dropped today as the game is set to release next week. Adding to the excitement, there’s also a free demo available that’ll let you get a feel for the game before its release.

Of Bird and Cage Gets a May 20 Release Date

Two announcements were made today regarding the upcoming video game and interactive metal album, Of Bird and Cage. First, an official release date was shared for the very first time. According to the press release, Of Bird and Cage is scheduled to release on May 20.

The game will be available on Steam, and if you haven’t done so already, it’s worth taking a moment to add Of Bird and Cage to your wishlist so you can keep track of its release. There’s another reason to visit the game’s Steam page as the second announcement centers around a playable demo.

If you’re curious about the game and want to get a feel for the music and gameplay, a free demo for Of Bird and Cage is available right now on Steam.

The demo is pretty generous, letting players experience the first two time-limited levels, with the demo spanning around 20 minutes in length. The demo will only be available until May 18, so be sure to download and play it while it’s still available.

If you’re unfamiliar with Of Bird and Cage and are wondering what it’s about, the description on Steam is as follows

“Experience the overwhelming power of metal music like never before. Featuring artists from (ex) Guns N’ Roses, Epica, Within Temptation, and many others! Music by Arnold Nesis.

Dive into a dark, twisted game specifically tailored to its music. Let symphonic metal lead you through a two-hour-long story of trauma, violence, and madness based lightly on ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Play as Gitta Barbot, a 25 year-old drug addict, who tries to escape the physical and mental prison of her captor—Bres Lupus. Make quick choices that will have dire consequences and watch how your actions reveal new paths while struggling to keep your sanity.

You’re surrounded by violence at home and at work, engulfing every aspect of your life—what will you do? Will you take revenge or grant forgiveness? Ultimately, the choice is yours.

Follow the twisted relationship between two characters, portrayed in a gut-wrenching way. Happy endings don’t come easily here. In this first-person hybrid of a concept album and a game, your choices and actions will shape the narrative.”

We’ve mentioned a few of the artists that’ll be part of the game’s soundtrack, but it’s worth providing the full list (seen below) as well given how impressive the lineup of featured artists is.

  • Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus)

  • Davidavi ‘Vidi’ Dolev (Gunned Down Horses)

  • Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses)

  • Rob van der Loo (Epica)

  • Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation)

  • Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria)

  • Casey Grillo (ex-Kamelot)

  • Rocky Gray (ex-Evanescence)

  • Mike Lepond (Symphony X)

  • Tina Guo

  • Snowy Shaw (ex-King Diamond, ex-Therion)

If the game piques your interest, you can check out the full Steam page for it to get an idea as to what it’s all about. Of Bird and Cage is scheduled to release on May 20, but a free demo for the game will be available before then from now until May 18.

Below, we’ve also embedded a brand new trailer that released yesterday that introduces the voice behind Gitta in Of Bird and Cage, Kobra Paige (singer/songwriter for Kobra and the Lotus).
