The last time we saw Wolfenstein was a few years ago, when id Software put together a new first-person shooter with the help of Raven Software. It was pretty good but it made us long for a real Wolfenstein game that didn’t lean so much on supernatural capabilities and instead let us take the fight to the Nazi regime. This Winter, it looks like we’ll be getting that game.
Bethesda has confirmed that Wolfenstein: The New Order is officially coming, and is expected to show it off for the first time at its booth at E3 next month. Swedish development team MachineGames is putting the game together for release during holiday 2013.
The game takes place in the reimagined 1960’s, where the Nazis have managed to win the war and are taking control of the world with the help of a robot army. Hero B.J. Blazkowicz won’t stand for this and vows to fight back.
Though the gameplay hasn’t been detailed yet, we expect plenty of traditional Wolfenstein action. The game is set for release on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, and will come to unnamed next-generation systems later this year.
You can check out the debut trailer here on the Gamespot page. Welcome back B.J.!
