Backwards Compatible Xbox One Scam

You cannot play Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One, no matter what someone tells you.

The Internet is no stranger to scams and hoaxes. From a prince in some faraway land asking for money to Hollywood celebrities dying under mysterious circumstances, there is a wide range of false information designed to shock and disappoint people.

The latest comes from controversial message board 4chan, which claimed to discover a means to make the Xbox One backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games. Users even published step-by-step instructions on how to achieve what so many consumers desperately want.

We’ll refrain from even posting said instructions because, quite frankly, there’s no point. Following these steps will in fact “brick” your Xbox One, rendering it inoperable. Microsoft’s Larry Hryb even said as much on his Twitter account:

“To be clear there is no way to make your Xbox One backwards compatible & performing steps to attempt this could make your console inoperable.”

Bottom line, DO NOT follow these instructions or believe anyone who claims to know a way to achieve backwards compatibility for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Xbox One IS NOT COMPATIBLE with Xbox 360 games. Ignore these false claims and wait for either Microsoft or Sony to make official announcements on future system features.

In the meantime, have a great rest of the weekend playing games!
